Discovered an Awesome Pandora Station

Last night I realized that the babe hasn’t heard enough music lately. Instead of investing in baby music cds, I decided to try Pandora. I typed in “baby” and found a Baby Einstein classics station. I thought it might be mostly lullabies and classical music, but I was pleasantly surprised. While there were a few different versions of The Lion Sleeps Tonight and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, there was also a great mixture of “regular” songs from Frank Sinatra, Otis Redding, and The Temptations. There were showtunes, of course (The  Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Toy Story), but there was reggae too. And let me tell you

You haven’t really lived until you’ve heard “Lullaby Renditions” from Journey, Tom Petty, andget this Guns N’ Roses. That’s right. Lullaby “Open Arms.” Lullaby “Free Falling.” And lullaby “Paradise City.” Remember “Hey Ya” from Outkast? That was the last song I heard today. Awesome. Just plain awesome.

Finished Party Invitation #4

My first thought was an “Around the World in 80 Days” theme which then became a general travel theme. Then, somewhere along the way, I found my new obsession. Hot air balloons. I am 99% certain I will host a hot air balloon party in 2013. If not for a graduation, then perhaps a first birthday. I happen to know someone turning one this year

It would be great for a graduation party though. Up, up, and away she goes. (That sort of thing) . Anyway yesterday I mentioned needing some paper (for my sparkly clouds). While I was at JoAnn’s, I found the silver cord and the white pompon ribbon. I think they add a nice touch, don’t you?

There’s a good chance that I might make a fifth invitation, but if I don’t, a theme needs to be chosen ASAP so I can get started on the decorations. I’m officially psyched.

Started Invitation #4

Some people smoke. Some people drink. I make invitations. Seriously I think I’m addicted.

I started the fourth invitation for my sister’s graduation party today and immediately started thinking about what I could do next. I would have finished today, but I need one more trip to JoAnn’s or Michael’s for the right paper.

Turned a Skirt
into a Dress

Over a decade ago someone gave me a skirt that was too big for me, but the fabric had a great pattern. I wanted to turn it into a dress, but until very recently had absolutely no sewing skills.

Having been inspired by the New Dress A Day blog (and now book), I decided to finally break out the skirt and do something with it. The elastic had been removed from the top so I just added two black grosgrain ribbon straps. Instead of taking in the dress (which may still happen later), I chose to place the ribbons where they would form a cowel neck with the extra material. To give it a more finished look, I liquid stitched more ribbon around the neckline and hemline. Since it is still unfitted, I’ll belt it with either the same ribbon or liven it up with something more colorful.

It took ten years to think about and around two hours to do. Ridiculous, right? Fortunately, I started this blog to be more productive. Now I have a new dress.

I’ll post before and after photos soon.

Today I

Made Party
Invitation #3

The reason I love designing invitations so much is because I’m already decorating the whole party in my head. That is absolutely the best part for me. Food, entertainment, etc. is great and all, but I like to wow with the decorations. I think they are still finding glitter at my high school from an Oscar-themed  teacher’s appreciation dinner that I organized (a very long time ago).

When I was coming up with a third party option for my sister, I couldn’t help but choose a Mad Hatter Tea Party. There is so much that can be done for this particular party including great food and entertainment.

I struggled to develop this invitation because I had at least five different ideas in my mind. So if this theme is chosen who knows what the final invitations will look like.

It is difficult to get the full "pop-up-iness" of this invitation from the photo.
