Today I

Woke Up to Bagpipes

It happens more than you might think.

Living across the street from the state capitol, and therefore Capitol Park, has its perks – great view, fun people watching, etc. It also comes with a lot of awesome (and sometimes incredibly bizarre) experiences.

As we live directly across from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial, it is a given that certain dates will bring with them gatherings around this particular monument.
Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and even September 11th (when they read all of the names of those who died) are the main days as you might expect. Most of these events involve bagpipes. The annual firefighters memorial and police officers memorial both do as well. Sobagpipes pretty common.

What you wouldn’t expect at a VFW monument: a wedding. We also live next door to a church which means weddings are pretty commonplace too, but the one yesterday was different. They chose a monument with the name of deceased soldiers as their alter. At first I thought maybe it was meaningful to them somehow. Then the bride walked down the aisle to a Maxwell song.

Remember what I said about people watching?
